50 years of Sparkle
1973
Larry Mawby plants grape vines on the Leelanau Peninsula and starts making still wines.
1984
Larry makes the first Mawby Méthode Champenoise wines realizing that the Leelanau climate and growing region are ripe for high quality sparkling wine production.
Late '90's
MAWBY starts exclusively producing Méthode Champenoise sparkling wines, abandoning still wine production.
2004
Recognizing a market for more affordable options, MAWBY introduces a line of Cuve Close Method sparkling wines. Fresh, fruity, and fun, the labels include Sex, Detroit and Us.
2009
Larry Mawby partners with the Laing Family to help grow the business.
2019
With over 30 years of combined experience, Michael, Peter, Stu and Sharon Laing now lead a team of sparkling wine professionals at MAWBY.
2023
After 50 years in the business of making MAWBYness, our focus remains the same as when Larry poured his first glass: to make incredible sparkling wine for all people and all moments, while respecting the land around us.
