Tony grew up near St. Paul, Minnesota. He went to college in Northern Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a BFA in Graphic Design. He met his wife Laura while attending college and after graduation they moved to central Illinois together to begin their careers. After a few years of designing bronze plaques and headstones, Tony was given an opportunity to turn his winemaking hobby into a career and began working at Sleepy Creek Vineyards in 2011. In 2014 he returned to college and began working towards his Master’s degree through VESTA and Missouri State University. When Tony and his wife had their first child in 2015 they decided to move to a place more like where they grew up. The lakes, hills, trees, and beauty of the Traverse City area captivated and reminded them of home so they packed up and moved north. Tony began working for Mawby in 2016 and has been enjoying the challenge and excitement of making sparkling wine ever since then.
In his free time Tony likes hiking, camping, and exploring the many parks of Northern Michigan, he also enjoys reading comics and other book recommendations from his friends and family. When his isn’t making wine at work he also makes beer, mead, cider, and occasionally more wine at home. He can be found with his family at the beach in the summer and teaching his daughter how to ski in the winter.
